The scene describes a tightrope walk between grain silos with the chapter’s title character feeling “as if the wire were clinging to her as closely as she clung to it, welcoming her into that mirror world, a secret place occupied by her alone.”

The illustration combines both dip pen, ink, and traditional media with digital resources, particularly focusing on a pushed perspective to convey the dizzying height.
